ஸ்கோர் கார்ட் பாக்கும்போதே டெரரா இருக்குமே? ஓபனிங் இறங்கி கலக்கற இந்த மனுஷனுக்கு இதுக்கு மேல ஒரு ஓபனிங் நம்மளால குடுக்க முடியாது. இனி கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகளில் விளையாடப் போவதில்லை என அறிவித்திருக்கும் ராகுல் டிராவிட்டுடன் ஒரு எக்ஸ்க்ளுசிவ் இண்டர்வியூ (நிஜமாவே எக்ஸ்க்ளுசிவ் தாங்க, இப்படி ஒரு பேட்டி குடுத்த விஷயம் இதைப் படிச்சாத்தான் அவருக்கே தெரிய வரும்!!)

"16 வருஷம் - எப்படி பீல் பண்றீங்க?"

"ரொம்ப நிறைவா இருக்கு. நிறைய சந்தோசம், கொஞ்சம் வருத்தம், சின்ன ஏமாற்றம் - பட் மொத்தத்துல நிம்மதியா இருக்கு"

"கொஞ்சம் விளக்கமா சொல்ல முடியமா?"

"ரிடையர் ஆனது தான்" பலமாக சிரிக்கிறார்.



"உங்களைப் பற்றி பெருமையாப் பேச நிறைய புள்ளி விவரங்கள் இருக்கு. இருந்தாலும், எந்த விஷயத்தை அல்லது சாதனையை நீங்க பெருமையா நினைக்கறீங்க?"

"இஞ்சுரின்னு சொல்லிட்டு ரொம்ப ஜாஸ்தி நாள் நான் வீட்ல உட்காரலை. இது சாதனையான்னு தெரியாது. ஆனா நான் கடந்து வந்த பாதையை திரும்பிப் பார்க்கும்போது இந்த விஷயம் எனக்குக் கொஞ்சம் பளிச்சின்னு தெரியுது."

"இது தான் சார் சாதனை. அவனவன் ரெண்டு மேட்ச் ஆடினதும் சுண்டு விரல்ல சுளுக்குன்னு சொல்லிட்டு சிக் லீவ்ல போயிடறாங்க!"

ஒரு வெட்கம் கலந்த சிரிப்பை உதிர்க்கிறார்.

"பிராட்மேன் ஓரேஷன் - அதுக்கு நீங்க நிறைய தயார் பண்ணியிருந்தீங்கன்னு கேள்விப்பட்டோம். அதுக்கேத்த மாதிரி உங்க பேச்சிலும் ஊமைக்குத்து கொஞ்சம் தூக்கலாவே இருந்தது"

"ஊமைக்குத்தெல்லாம் ஒண்ணும் இல்லை. எல்லாம் நேர் குத்து தான்" சிறிய புன்னகைக்குப் பிறகு, "இந்திய அணி எந்த ஊர்ல ஆடினாலும் கூட்டம் வரும்னு இருந்த காலம் போய் உள்ளூர் மேட்ச்சுக்கே ஈயடிக்கற நிலைமை வந்திருக்கு. இங்கிலாந்து, அப்புறம் வெஸ்ட் இண்டீஸ் இந்தியா வந்தப்போ அந்த அளவுக்கு ஒண்ணும் பெரிய கூட்டம் இல்லை. அதையெல்லாம் பார்த்தப்போ எனக்குள்ள ஒரு அலாரம் அடிச்சது - எங்கயோ தப்பு நடக்குதுன்னு. ஆடியன்சை விட்டு நாம கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமா விலகிப் போறோம்னு தோணிச்சு. என்னதான் இங்கிலாந்து பிரீமியர் லீக் பெரிய ஈவன்டா இருந்தாலும் வேர்ல்ட் கப் புட்பால் தான் திருவிழா. ஆனா கிரிக்கெட்ல அது தலை கீழா மாறிக்கிட்டு வருதோன்னு எனக்குப் பட்டுச்சு. இப்படி எனக்குள்ள இருந்த பல ஆதங்கத்தைத் தான் அங்க கொட்டித் தீர்த்தேன்."

"அடைமொழியை எல்லாம் சீரியஸா எடுத்துக்கக் கூடாது. இன்னிக்கு வால்னு சொல்வாங்க. நாளைக்கு ஜன்னல்னு சொல்வாங்க. வந்தாலும் ஏன்னு கேட்க முடியாது. போனாலும் தடுக்க முடியாது.(மீண்டும் கடிகாரத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு) தப்பா எடுத்துக்காதீங்க, நாம அப்புறம் மீட் பண்ணலாம்" என்று சொல்லிவிட்டு பேட்டை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அவசரமாக ஓடுகிறார்.



அவர் கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகளிலிருந்து மட்டும் தான் ஓய்வு பெற்றிருக்கிறார் - கிரிக்கெட்டிலிருந்து அல்ல.

Human Factor in RD that made him a celebrated professional.

Cricketing world bids adieu to one of its favorite student who eventually mastered the game itself. "Dravid" is more than just an individual's name. It is one of the most significant words added to the dictionary in the late 90's meaning "Discipline & Hard work". It will be an excruciating sight to watch someone else walking in at No.3 for India in test matches.

Successful individuals can be of 2 kinds:
1. Ones who wish to achieve great heights in their career by being disciplined & straight.
2. Ones who strive hard wanting to be known as a good human being & by virtue of having achieved it, they reap well earned byproducts in the names of respect and money.

Dravid is an individual who belongs to the 2nd category. At the end of such an illustrious career he leaves behind, a perpetual legacy for all the succeeding generations to follow. What Yuvraj, Virat, Rohit, Raina, Rahane have to fill is not the amount of runs but the way to achieve them. Money should only be a facilitating factor for a good living & not life itself. There is nothing that you get for free on this Earth & when you work hard you will definitely be paid back deservedly. Sachin, Dravid & VVS will be known for how they carried themselves being ambassadors of this beautiful game than the runs they would eventually go on to score by the end their careers. That is the reason why not many people respect Ponting & Inzamam though they have amassed huge runs.

I cannot forget the days when a dear friend of mine & myself used to spend hours recollecting Dravid's batting technique and put that to practice every time we played. Words cannot describe what Dravid & Sachin have meant to this country in terms of being true professionals on & off the field. 2001 -- Scorching Mumbai summer afternoon when the temperature was climbing on the field against Australia, Slater & Hayden lost their cool and slammed at Dravid, only to receive a plethora of politeness in reply. These are virtues that no coaching manual will teach you. Remaining calm amidst the storm is no easy feat, for Dravid did it for close to 2 decades.

In the words of one of the greatest leaders to have played this game Hansie Cronje once said "He shows maturity & calmness beyond his age". That is exactly what Dravid is all about. Cricket will miss one of the most self assured professional who always knew his limits and the boundaries of discipline. Jason Gillespie's words of tribute are just about apt in explaining Dravid's quality on the field "He was more patient than us most of the times". Watching test matches live at Chepauk we always got the feeling that the crowd booed Dravid's stay for they did not feel entertained. However when they got back home they feel the most relieved when they saw "Not out" against Dravid's name at the end of the day.

Sir Vivian Richards once mentioned Dravid's name in saying "If only I had the concentration levels of a Dravid, I would have scored as many as 8 triple hundreds in my career". Rahul is one of the most intelligent Cricketers as well. Instance : 2003 Cricket World Cup India vs Pakistan at Centurion - Dravid & Yuvraj at the crease with India requiring 60 odd runs to win - Wasim Akram decided to come back into the attack & got the ball to reverse a bit. Dravid was quick to notice that and protected Yuvraj from getting many balls against Wasim & absorbed all the pressure himself to allow Yuvi to score freely of the others. Dravid was a hardcore technician who always wanted to learn as much as he grew with the game. When he was awarded the ICC Player of the year 2004, he was humble enough to say "I am happier to have been nominated in the 1st place along with the others, than in winning this award". He is a Cricketing purist's dream come true.

ICC World Cup Finals 2011 @ Mumbai when Dhoni helped India lift the coveted cup after 28 years : Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly & others who started the success and drafted the initial plans to reach the top 4 years prior, were not invited to watch the Finals. Harsha Bhogle once mentioned (When a CM was asked to give the Man of the Match award in an ODI "India is a nation where respect and importance is often given to people who are not even part of the fraternity. It is owned more by people who are not part of it". When Shah Rukh Khan & Priyanka Chopra can be invited to watch the finals & cheer for the country, why not the soldiers themselves?? - Such a shame on the administrators' part.

I was devastated when Andy Flower had to run away from Zimbabwe for security reasons, for he was probably the least spoken about greats of Test Cricket. People like Dravid & AF always showed us the true benefits of being hard working and dedicated. These are virtues which are last on the list of the current genre of cricketers. While the world looks back at the prodigious achievements of this modern day great, (Lords, Headingley, Johannesburg, Hamilton, Calcutta, Adelaide, Jamaica) it is only testimonial to spell the legacy he leaves behind "Hard work & patience always pays!!!"

Chappell Soap Opera!!!

In a week, when there was no cricket action by India, so much happen off the field. It all started when the selectors announced the first XI for the one off T20 match to be held at South Africa on 30^th March 2012. Dhoni leading this Team clearly indicates that the top brass are not inclined to give captaincy to  Kohli even for a inconsequential match. I don’t know what is the message or to whom it is conveyed.

Is it a method of telling Kohli that he is not ready yet?

Is it a message to Dhoni-Kohli that Gambir is still in the scheme of things?

Is it a move not to humiliate Gambir right away?

Under these circumstances, there is a Greg Chappell making his presence felt by virtue of his comments on the Indian Cricket.

"It was obvious from the start of the tour that the Indians weren't really interested in Test cricket. After the Australians showed that they were going to be a formidable foe, I was very disappointed with the Indians. And having worked with many of them and having been in the dressing room with them, Test cricket was too hard for most of them. They can only make a lot of money playing 20-over cricket. Fifty-over cricket they can sort of put up with

Just to remind Greg Chappell, Indians can make lot of money playing any format of the game. It is always Indian Teams that draw more crowd than any other country while touring abroad. However it is just not Indian Cricketers who mint money playing T20s. Chappell should know that it is the Australians who make most of the headcount after Indians in IPL. That includes Coaching Staff too. After all, Cricket Australia also has its own version of T20 in the name of Big Bash for its players. I don't remember any Indian playing here.

However it is just not Greg Chappell, rather whole India is disappointed by Indian's performance Down Under. But the failures don't attribute to lack of interest. Obviously everyone knows the real cause.

Test cricket for a lot of, not only India, a lot of subcontinent teams, I think it's pretty tough. And the challenge for Test cricket is, without the sort of grounding that we [Australians] had as kids, Test cricket is too hard. It's very demanding mentally, physically and emotionally

If Test Cricket is so tough for Subcontinent Teams, how come Australia fails every time they visit India? How come Pakistan whitewashed England convincingly? Everyone is Lion in their own den.

The culture is very different, it's not a team culture. They lack leaders in the team because they are not trained to be leaders. From an early age, their parents make all the decisions, their schoolteachers make their decisions, their cricket coaches make the decisions.

The culture of India is such that, if you put your head above the parapet someone will shoot it. Knock your head off. So they learn to keep their head down and not take responsibility. The Poms (British) taught them really well to keep their head down. For if someone was deemed to be responsible, they'd get punished. So the Indians have learned to avoid responsibility. So before taking responsibility for any decisions, they prefer not to.

To my little knowledge, Leadership is a persona. It does not come with training, it is one’s Trait. Greg Chappell of all must know this. If one turns into a leader by virtue of seniority, the player is all set to bite dust if not gifted with the trait. It is for this reason the World did not witness a captain in Jacques Kallis or Michael Hussey or Mohammad Yusuf. We all know what happened when Mohammad Yusuf lead the side.

Finally, the news is out that Rahul Dravid is all set to bid adieu from International Cricket. Had he announced his retirement and played the Aussie Series, it would have been a icing in cake to his illustrious career. Never mind. Better late than never.

is their a Road To Glory???

At this time, Sri Lanka are the clear favorites to qualify for the Finals of this CB Series ahead of India. All their batsmen starting Jayawardene, Dilshan, Sangakara, Chandimal, Thirumanne are in top form and then the long handles of Mathews and Perera are proving hyper effective towards the end. If not for the genius of Kohli on Tuesday, the bowling of Malingas, Kulesekaras and Heraths & astute of Jayawardene has delivered the goods thus far. It is surely advantage Sri Lanka. Being an emblematic Indian Fan could not resist the temptation of visualizing India playing Finals.

If India Makes It by virtue of destiny...

Luckily it is a best of 3 finals that provides a fair chance for both teams to bounce back in the event of an off day. For India, this is a God send opportunity to redeem their image that is mostly tarnished by ego battles, pitiable performances, injury breakdowns, player failures and finally some gravity defying cricket both on and off the field. Let the bygones be bygones. For once, the team is required to stay united, be collective in thought and importantly ride on the success of Kohli for the Road to Glory.

India should continue to field the best available XI on paper. Ideally the one, the Captain is comfortable with. In all likelihood, I guess the following XI will start the best of 3 finals.

Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambir, Kohli, Raina, Dhoni, Jadeja, Pathan, Ashwin, Zaheer, Umesh Yadav.

Irfan Pathan should claim his place on merit and India will have to ponder between Praveen Kumar or Vinay Kumar only if Zaheer is deemed unfit or Umesh Yadav is perceived touch expensive. I’m sure Yadav should and will play. Playing the best possible team alone does not guarantee wins against Team like Australia. It would be good idea if India mix it up with unexpected moves to fox the Australians.

I’m just exploring what could be done out of the blues to stump the Kangaroos. India’s success is largely dependent on the players in form such as Gambir, Kohli, Dhoni, Ashwin, Yadav and Irfan Pathan. Optimum utilization of these resources is likely to reap more rewards. In other words, Sehwag’s form is currently worrying. But, axing him is not the solution to the puzzle. After all, his meager presence in the side creates nightmare in the opposition camp is undeniable truth. I personally think it would be a good idea to open with Tendulkar & Gambir, Kohli at No.3, Dhoni at No.4 and play Sehwag at No.5. This way, India has two level headed batsmen at the top, then the man in form to bat at the most opportune position and then Dhoni to bridge Top and Middle Order. This will largely reduce the pressure on Sehwag and still give him the batting power play to do his pyrotechnics.

As for the bowling is concerned, it will be wise to operate new ball with Yadav and Irfan, while Zaheer and Ashwin should come first change/bowling power play. Use of Yadav with new ball could potentially push Aussies on the back foot, while Irfan Pathan swing could come handy at the top.

Bottom Line: Still shamelessly keeping fingers crossed to pass the first hurdle.

the POWER to lead

The team for the Asia Cup was announced today. I’m pleasantly surprised to see the name of Virat Kohli as the new vice captain for Team India. Knowing the conservative mentality of the selectors I was keeping my hopes low for any brave moves. If you revisit the captaincy nominations in the past, it completely lacked wisdom (whenever Dhoni wasn’t available to lead the side). When New Zealand toured India for ODI’s in 2010, Gambir was given the responsibility to steward the ship. During the Tour of Zimbabwe (2010) and West Indies (2011), Suresh Raina marshaled the troop. Then for the Tour of England (2011), Laxman was the Vice Captain in Tests. In the recent ODI’s at home, Sehwag lead in Dhoni’s absence against West Indies (2011). Sehwag was also the deputy to Dhoni in both Tests and ODI’s for the Tour of Australia (2011-12). In all these instances the nominations were based on seniority or political motto, never an attempt to discover/unearth a true successor for Dhoni.

At last, the selectors have arrived at the most logical candidate for Vice Captaincy. In other words put some thought in picking the right candidate to be groomed as the future Captain for Team India. India won the last Under 19 World Cup under his reign. Also he is the only player assured of a spot in the XI in all 3 formats of the game, both Home and Away. Finally, he has the age behind him for the long tenure of Power. It is definitely Good News for India and Kohli fans. I only wish the success/power doesn’t get into his head.

With respect to the squad, it must have surely evoked a mixed response. But, I’m happy with it. Sehwag is rightfully sacked (I don’t buy a bit of the word RESTED) for his spineless display with the bat in Australia. Also his contributions with mouth (I’m deliberately avoiding the word politics) doesn’t help Dhoni/Team’s harmony either. Had selectors given a break to Dhoni and asked Kohli to lead the side right away, it would have been tougher pill to swallow for Gambir.  Now he should realize he is out of the Captaincy radar. I recommend Gambir to take a counseling session with Sehwag/Yuvraj Singh (both sailed this route before) to ease his nerves. At the same time, full marks to Dhoni for retaining Jadeja and Raina despite their poor showings in Australia. As a result, I assume Rohit Sharma was given to him as compliement. I will be curious to see if Yusuf Pathan can upstage Jadeja for a place in the XI. But, it is LOUD & CLEAR, why selectors have to REST Sehwag and not DROP him. Because, if they drop Sehwag, they also have to drop few Dhoni pets. After all, we Indians are always POLITCALLY right.

By all means, this squad should be able to win the Asia Cup comfortably. Considering India experienced downward curve way too long, trophies like Asia Cup are need of the hour. The least it will affirm we are still the Tigers in sub-continent.

Bottom line: With Pakistan’s pathetic showing against England in ODI’s, Sri Lanka should be the only competition for India in the ASIA Cup.

Miracles... do HAPPEN

The day I decide not to talk any more of CB Series, the day I choose not watch any more of CB series, the day I made up my mind not to write anymore of CB Series, Guess What??? India produced a miracle!!! It was at 10 pm Eastern Time when Dhoni announced the playing XI that still accommodated Ravindra Jadeja, I immediately shut off the TV and went to bed. Purposefully this night, I didn’t carry the IPod Touch so as I resist following scores during sleep. So, every time I woke up (you know why) I forced my way back to sleep. Finally, at 5.40 am, I lost the resistance. I switched the TV cunningly, to watch Dhoni give a sober interview. On the contra, the morning began with the SHOCK. I could not believe what my eyes saw. India had successfully chased a total of 320 with 12 over’s to spare and secured a bonus point win. Oh My God!! This is unbelievable. Yet it is the truth. Now, I regret missing one of the best matches of the decade.

After about 6 hours, I finally finished watching the entire replay of this wonderful run chase. This innings from Kohli brought back the memories of Tendulkar’s Sharjah Storm. Tendulkar first played a stupendous century to qualify India for the finals and then produced another scintillating ton to win the finals against mighty Australians. Today Kohli’s performance displayed that touch of genius. I’m curious to see Kohli repeat the Tendulkar act for India to win the CB series. If this is how it is destined, nobody can stop it.

Apart from Kohli show, there were other factors that went in favor of India. The temperature falling below 14C and the wind making it look 10C, must have hurt Lankans in the evening. Adding salt to the injury, a poor call by Jayawardene to delay the bowling power play as late as 27 overs sealed the game in favor of India.

Much like of a Bollywood movie, when all hopes were down, when the last supporter lost the trust, when the team in total turmoil, raises a hero from ashes to save the massacre. Today, Kohli was that savior. I wish he brushed his success to his colleagues too. However, this victory in all probability can cause more bad than good. It will conceal the politics that is causing the down stride of Indian Cricket; it will hide the failures of Board, Selectors and Players and then turn IPL-5 a raging success. Basically an opportunity for the betterment of Indian Cricket will be LOST.

The selectors meet on 1^st March to announce the squad for Asia Cup starting on 13^th March 2012. It will be interesting to see what squad will be fielded for this series. Already rumors touting mills that Sehwag, Raina and Jadeja are to be axed and Dhoni, Zaheer Khan to be rested. Also reports surface that Rahane, Robin Bist, Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan might get a look. Either ways the players axed/rested had earned their break to prepare for the most important event of the Indian Cricket Calendar.

Bottom line: As a loyal fan, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and praying God so as the deserving Sri Lankans lose their way to Australia the next game.

what is the NEW EXCUSE???

Obstruction 1

Why would David Hussey spend those precious moments watching the ball? Alternatively he could have used up those valuable seconds in sprinting to the danger end. Shouldn’t he? So, having watched the ball, his instincts instructed him to prevent the ball from hurting him or the wickets. Any case, the attempt was deliberate and he should have been ruled out.

Obstruction 2

When Gambir and Tendulkar attempted a sharp single, Brett Lee (bowler) impulsively attempted to stop it. In this process, he crossed and ran ahead of running Tendulkar only to pick the ball. Soon he realized the close in fielder had far more probability of inflicting the damage. So he stopped straight away to watch the action that obstructed Tendulkar from reaching the crease. In this case the obstruction wasn’t deliberate. So Tendulkar is (rightfully ruled) out.

This is my take on the controversial decisions.

However, when Dhoni blames the obstructions that possibly changed the outcome of the game, I’m dead against. Come on Dhoni, umpiring errors are part and parcel of the game. It is you who want to play without DRS as you were willing to accept the game gracefully with umpiring errors. Today, what made you to attack umpiring mistakes? Because, it isn’t DRS fault?

In any case, minus inform Clarke plus rookie Captain (making his way into the side after a long injury layoff) meant “Game presented to India in Silver Plate”. To some extent India cashed on the opportunity by pushing Aussies on the wall at 57/3(or 107/4). When India should have seized the moment, the bowlers started spraying all over (bowling down the legs, bowling short) thus allowing the batsman to sneak back. Adding to the woes, Dhoni in his customary style ran slow on over rate. If Dhoni had avoided his usual routine of every ball field change, India would have been better off bowling Yadav his full quota of overs. Even first timers demonstrate more control on field placements. Anyways, it was Sehwag’s turn to bail Dhoni from yet another poor over rate saga. Usually Dhoni would have avoided Sehwag (in other words asked Raina to do the dirty job) but public stunt and patch up job were the need of the hour. After all, the captain surely knows to play the game politically correct. But, asking lame excuses are poor cover up for the loss.

I honestly expected Dhoni to drop Jadeja when he said “There is no room for Experimentation”. Jadeja and Kohli are the two cricketers who did not sit a single match in this entire series. 2 wickets and 100 runs in 7 matches is all Jadeja could contribute to India thus far. How does this performance qualify him a spot in a must win match? By all means the trio of Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Sehwag would have easily over compensated the half baked all rounder. On the other note, Manoj Tiwary and Rahul Sharma deserved a match ahead of Jadeja.

If Dhoni carry any anticipation of upsetting in-form Sri Lanka with bonus points – it is nothing but chasing Fools Gold. However if Dhoni make any of the following comments it is a public abuse.

1.      We will be playing for pride.

2.      We did not play to our potential.

3.      Umpiring errors cost the game dearly

4.      Luck was not in our favor with toss

5.      Our openers did not fire today

6.      We are a talented side, however the talent could not translate into performance

Tired of hearing these brick load of bullshits. Without reading too much into the final game India should field all the water boys. After all, what we did not do in 7 matches we are not going to do in the 8^th.

Epilogue

Having watched India’s tour of Australia for the past 2 months, I infer, the fans had more share of pressure than the players involved. Look at it this way. Despite watching non-stop cricket for more than year, we still held ourselves to witness one more pathetic display. Adding fuel to the fire, the games were played in the odd hours causing sleep disorder. Then add up the time spent on following buildup shows, expert comments, discussing strategies etc made us look insane. Eventually, supporting a politically polluted team is always going to yield poor return on investment.

With Tendulkar being unTendulkarish in the past few months, there is a sudden distress felt by the media and the ex-servicemen. Curious to know if the common cricket fan feels the same way. Lets hear what the fans have to say...

Sabyasachi Chatterjee Pressure is Tendulkar's middle name. From the age of 16 he has been under pressure. Forget what tom, dick and harry is saying. But the truth is it is painful to see Tendulkar playing in a team that has talent but no motivation or desire. The problem is he is not the young Tendulkar when he use to change the team fortune single handedly game after game. Sachin has achieved everything. He cares more about the team than his form or achievement (somehow there are people who think the other way which is utter non-sense). With the team sucking big time and he is not meeting the standards he has set in the last 22 years, people want him to retire. Because for a person like him you don’t want him to retire when his form (better than others but below average by his standard) and team's form is low. Sourav has said it right about him regarding ODI’s. If he is not going to play every game or tournament then there is no need for him to play the one day games. Do not get me wrong. I am not suggesting he should retire. But at this time of his career he should be more forthcoming to the media and people about his plan, like a Ricky Ponting.

Giriraj Prakasam I think it’s because of 100. all are expecting this for past 1 year and no result. So just frustration.

Amit Patel This batting maestro should answer all this debates with his grand ton. He is not failed at all in performance; he is only a ton away from his big achievement. This is common mentality of Indian media and old players to pull legs of anyone ahead of them. People always threw players whom have kept entire nation's pride on their shoulders for years but only they don't score in couple of matches as per people's expectation.

Anubhav Chopra I believe the pressure is being laid on Tendulkar simply due to Ricky pointing retiring. Like Ricky, Tendulkar has seen a lot more greats come and go and more so India and others who want Tendulkar to retire are using the downturn in Indian team as an excuse for this predicament. Tendulkar still has to offer a lot more to the youngsters, and just his mere presence on the pitch is confidence to the batsmen on the other end. In my opinion, Tendulkar is still performing, although it has been a little while since we have seen a big ton from him, but that should not lead to retirement news. Tendulkar is pure class and someone special who has gotten better with time. As such, there should not be any retirement pressure, rather focus on getting the next generation ready to lead the WC team.

Dharmendra Ponala If you ask all cricket boards including BCCI whether Sachin Tendulkar should be playing in any form of international cricket...the answer would be a big YES. Because he has now become a great ambassador of the game and a true inspiration, leave alone the commercial value he adds to the game. I am sure most of us didn't even cared what happened in WI when India went for a tour without Sachin after last year's WC. But everyone at that time knew that Sachin will be featuring in AUS tour. Obviously the expectations of Indian fans have grown quite high thanks to idiotic media circus around his 100th ton. Since WC he has just played 5 ODIs in AUS and people are talking about his retirement. They have very short memory. They forget that he is the leading run getter for us in the WC. In the recent AUS test series; he is the 2nd highest run scorer for India. In my view, Sachin will give up cricket ODI or Tests when he himself doesn't enjoy the game anymore. Till that point of time no one has any sort of rights to drop him or ask him to retire. Also I don't think we can see any other cricketer like Sachin in our life time.

Sudarshan Sadagopan Its a tough time for him even if he scores 50 or 60. unless he scores a 100 none will be quiet as we always think that Sachin normally fights out of slump with a slow and steady innings. He did that few times but with milestone ahead those things aren’t visible. Only thing i would prefer is him not being dropped. Media plays a big role in this. He has to plan to retire in a series in india. Hopefully with a 100.

Narayanan Pai O Sachin, please retire!!! I can’t hear some crazy bugger's cry. There are some stupid Indians, who you play for are either jealous of you or think that you're old. These useless people can watch a 70 year old guy acting as hero and super hero without any complaint for decades but not a sheer genius like yours. Many people like me still love to see you bat, bat and bat. The memories and joy you gave are still fresh. With all my disgust I can say is "STFU" for all those who want you to retire now itself for not playing for few matches.

Govindarajan Srinivasan When compared to others VVS and Dravid were not so terrible that they should be sacked or should retire from tests. Did we feel the same way during and after test series? Sachin played 10 innings at least so far in this tour and none of them contributed towards the team’s success hence the pressure. Given the mediocre contributions of all the 3 guys (in different forms of cricket) there are “NO” 3 other strong/consistent contenders for their spots waiting in line is my humble opinion. Pressure on Sachin to retire is a joke. We should find a way to win consistently and not be joking around.

Sai Mahesh Tendulkar should retire from ODI and Dhoni from Tests with immediate effect. 

Jayaraman Arjunan We love him so much that we don't want to see him fail. He has set high standards in the game and we want him to set one more standard for leaving the game as well. Because whatever he does, has a great impact on the next generation.

Kishore Kumar It is just that he has not performed in the tour apart from two fluent innings in the test series and couple of starts in few ODIs. But neither did any of the team members in the tour. The expectation is that having reached that saturation ...point. when he is not able to deliver then how can u expect youngsters to deliver. It is high time that he takes a decision before IPL starts and more criticism to come. Either deliver or retire :)

The media is on a roll and is creating an impact. If he delivers he is great , if not retire. Just wondering how media plays an important role in an individual decision making specially in cricket when compared to other sports in India

Sambhav Jain I agree 100%, its unbelievable when experts like Dean Jones and Kapil Dev start talking about his retirement, he's barely played ODI's since his double ton, looked one of the best batsman for India at least in tests and its strange how thes...e so called experts think, if you are to question performances, what about sehwag?No one indian batsman has been able to leave a mark in both Tests and ODI's, i expect people to do more homework before they talk about Sachin retiring, but thats just me.

After going thru some of the opinions of the fans, it is quite clear that the little master’s time is not up yet. If he could carry the burden of India in his small shoulders for 20 long years, can’t India carry him for few more years? After all, if Sachin realize he is a burden/hindrance to the team’s success, he himself will bid adieu.

Bottom line: Cheap media stunt to gain publicity. Few ex-servicemen are prey to this.

India Vs Australia (Preview)

He made an impressive debut. Today with his maiden century, Peter Forrest stole the spot ahead of Usman Khwaja and Shaun Marsh as new No.3 for Australia in both Tests and ODIs. However the heroics were not sufficient to overwhelm the firing lions.

Despite some good showings in this series, Australians are not sure of a place in the finals. To add their woes they are forced to make some tough selection calls for their game against India this Sunday. The question is, Who should sit for Watson? In the current scenario there are only two choices available. Either Watson should come as an opener for failing Warner or should replace the all rounder Dan Christian whose 49^th cover cost the game for Australia dearly today. Either call is a double edged sword considering Watson has no cricket under his belt in the recent times. But there is no point in delaying Watson as he surely needs few games if Australia qualifies for the finals. If I’m asked to give my vote, I will prefer Watson for Warner. Logic, in cricket a batsman can find his groove quickly than a bowler especially in good batting conditions. So, Watson as batsmen is a safer bet than Watson as bowler. Also Watson for Christian could further weaken the bowling. We clearly saw today that Australia could not defend a total of 280. However, I highly doubt Australia would do that as they would prefer to teach Dan a tough lesson.

From India’s standpoint, too many egos are hurt. For once, Dhoni don’t have a choice but to field the best XI on paper. Also the players themselves don’t have choice but come out firing. In other words, Hit Out or Get Out!!! As a fan, I wish to give the benefit of doubt to India.

It is Nasty!!! It is Inane!!! India doesn’t deserve to win any cricket match is the cry of a sincere Indian cricket fan. When that happens, the tigers in disguise will only play to the empty stands for the hoopla that commence from Apr 4, 2012. Logic, if the stake holders can be canny to snub out of market players (Brian Lara, Herschelle Gibbs, Ganguly, Laxman are classic examples), why should a buyer die to watch sizzling Sehwag or a bludgeon Dhoni when they fizzle at ASLI MAIDHAN. That would be a perfect slap on the face for the players and the board for disrespecting the fan’s emotions. In other words, “The BILLION DOLLAR BABY is nothing but a truck load of shit to sell”. Sorry folks could not be diplomatic anymore.

Dear Dhoni

You are supposed to hold this team together. If you cannot do it, you don’t deserve to lead. Your policies are not any noble as Gandhi’s or Hazare’s. It can be compromised for the sake of the team that is rotten by politics.

It is only few days ago, you gave extended run to the seniors in Test Matches when the whole India believed it was idiocy to the core. With 3 Test matches gone in the wind, nothing left to save, the least a youngster would have benefited had he been included for the final test against Australia. But you still played oldies. All of a sudden, now you wake up only to realize you are in hurry to build the team for 2015 World Cup? That means, building future Test players are not your prerogative? To remind you, India has far bigger commitments in Test Cricket from late 2013. Oh I see, you have already decided to hang your Test boots before 2014 and it is somebodys headache now.

Coming back to slow movers statement, when was India ever tigers on the field? However with times, Indian teams has only improved. 20 years ago we were dead ducks, 10 years ago we were not bad, 5 years ago we were ok, Now, India challenge the best of fielding teams. Please remember, you are not forced to hide Romesh Powar in the field.

If grooming youngsters is the prime criteria why did you not play Varun Aaron even a single match in the ODI series held at England? Is it because a 33 yr old warhorse named Nehra was denied for your services? If thatz the case, what was the rationality to back Nehra? I’m sure the whole India knows that Gambir, Sehwag and Tendulkar are definitely better fielders and proven match winners ahead of Nehra.

As a fan I still prefer to watch India lose with youngsters. At the same time, I wish the seniors be dropped on performance grounds and not based on idiotic rotational policy.

On the note of partiality, what is the logic of backing Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Irfan Pathan? Even a kid knows it is wise choice to play a medium pacer ahead of spinner outside subcontinent. After all Ravindra Jadeja is neither a spinner like Vettori nor an all rounder like Jayasuriya to command a place. Thankfully, with his limited appearances in the comeback trail, Pathan has proved more than adequate to claim a spot in the side. The same time, Jadeja has not justified his talent for more than 3 years now.

Lastly, players in the squad gain their chance to play based on seniority and not on form. Come on, are we in Stone Age? Even a average fan knew Rohit Sharma was in rocking form over Virat Kohli at the start of the Test Series. Poor guy, he was benched far too long, now he is in hurry to make up for the time loss.

I may be your avid fan, but I’ve common sense to chew what you throw. Please remember, With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility!!!

Is it only after 4 Test Matches and 6 ODI’s you realized it is important to stay on the wicket and not throw your bat? Never mind. You have always expressed your disinterest for captaincy. All of a sudden why is this new love for the power? Is it because you can’t take the wrong calls by the captain? In that case, we have to remind you that your own captaincy is not inspirational either. Shut your mouth and let your bat do the talking. Earn your spot in the side; you will earn the right to question the captain.

Please prove your spot in the Test Side that plays outside subcontinent. Then you get the privilege of inviting the Aussies or Englishmen for a faceoff at home.

Have you decided to put a plaster on the mouth and watch this rooster fight? Is this why you worked so hard for the past 20 years? Just to watch your teams turn into a laughing stock and barrel!!! Sometimes it is important you let your mouth do the talking.

Have a vision to groom the next captain by giving him short assignments. I hope you don’t want me to spell the assignments and who the captain should be.
