Finally the Indian Cricket Calendar is rigged for good. It looks like the West Indies tour of India in Nov for 5 ODIs and 3 Tests is scrapped. To my limited knowledge, this is the first instance we will witness no cricket action in India this time. I’m sure the newly elected BCCI president had a big role to play in this revised itinerary, rather a No Itinerary. Though it will be a big disappointment for WICB, the truth is the tour hardly attracts anybody’s interest. Blame the WI supporters for geographically located in another side of the World or blame WI players for being no match to India, it is better the tour is voided for the benefit of everyone. That also means the traditional NKP Salve Challenger trophy will not decorate this year’s almanac. I’m happy things are proceeding in the right direction for Indian cricket. Can be perceived as good two months break or a worthy preparation time for the tour of Australia.
At this time it is time to be awed by the Srinivasan’s strategies in the past. Despite being board member, he convinced the Kingpin to own a franchise. Then he succeeded roping Mahindra Singh Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings in the auctions of 2008. The tactic benefited big time as the Team qualified every playoff till date, won the Championship twice, won Champions League once, by far most success tasted by any Club in India. Even in the auctions of 2010, when every team revamped their faces, Chennai Super Kings mostly retained the same squad. No one can dispute the stratagem that paid rich dividends for Super Kings in the season followed. There was a circumstance to choose either Power or Money, Srinivasan managed to retain both. He also masterminded Lalit Modi’s eviction from chair; eventually leading the later to seek asylum in England.
During his control of power from behind, Krish Srikanth made it to the Chairman of Selectors; few Tamil Nadu players like Murali Vijay, Badrinath, Abhinav Mukund made the cut to the national side. Already news floating around that Board of Control Cricket in India (BCCI) rechristened to Chennai Controls Cricket in India (CCCI). There is no doubt he invited the wrath of many during his quests, and now ready to play the big game officially.
We wish him all the success in the road ahead that benefits the Indian team. A small ray of hope is building on the tour of Australia.
Bottom line: Chennai Controls Cricket in India.
